Participants representing development organizations, industrial processors and farm input producers reaffirmed their commitment to fulfilling their roles in the project and achieve the ACAI collective objectives.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Top on the Agenda of the meeting was the onset of the grassroots events and promotion activities for the ACAI tools as the project transitions from research and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">development into<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0facilitating the use and adoption of the DSTs.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Partners presented their strategies for dissemination of the DSTs within their respective domains outlining objectives, targeted audience and corresponding numbers of farmers to be reached. The dissemination strategies we jointly discussed specific aspects harmonized for support and coordination between IITA and the partners.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1134\" style=\"width: 2570px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1134\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1134\" src=\"https:\/\/acai-project.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/DSC02697-min-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1440\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1134\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Participants held break out sessions to discuss joint plans and strategies for 2019 project implementation calendar.<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Speaking after the meeting<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ACAI East African project coordinator<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Dr<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Veronica<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Uzokwe was enthusiastic of the commitment from partners terming it significant for sustainability of the project.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWe are looking at how the tools will be sustained locally through these partners and the national research systems. The partners have confirmed to us that we are on the right track for the sustainability of this project.\u201d Said Dr\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Uzokwe<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In the 2019\/20 season of the project calendar, ACAI will shift its focus to activities that create awareness and influence farmers as well secondary partners to adopt the technology developed for the last four years of research and development. Partners at the meeting have been an integral part\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">o<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">f the development process<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0of the DST.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Stephen\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Magige<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, Project Manager for the Best Cassava Project by MEDA, said the partnership with ACAI has grown over the course the collaboration between the two projects\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">as a result of<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0the shared objectives as well as the ingenuity of the solutions that ACAI is working on.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cEvery time we meet like this, there is always something new, the project is making big steps at an incredible pace. We are happy and grateful for this partnership.\u201d Said Mr\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Magige<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ACAI project leader Dr Pieter Pypers led discussions on the <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">continued data for DST evaluation as an important part of the partner responsibility to help improve the accuracy of the recommendation as well as monitoring the progress of the project in general.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">three-day<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0meeting included a review of the progress made in the 2018\/19 season activities with highlights on the lessons learnt<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0during the period. In the 2018\/19 season, ACAI in collaboration with the partners, ran validation trials to test and improve recommendations given by the DST.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">IITA director for East Africa Dr Victor\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Manyong<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0joined the ACAI team during the opening session of the meeting. Dr\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Manyong<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0applauded ACAI project and partners for the achievements made over the course of the four years that the project has been running.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ACAI in Tanzania is working with\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">International Research organizations including CIAT, ICRAF, IPNI and CABI to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">implement strategic research activities, soil and plant analysis and crop modelling<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. Tanzania and Zanzibar Agricultural Research Institute (TARI\/ZARI) is\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">implement<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0field research<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">strategic contributions to<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ward<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0decision support tool development<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. Development and Scaling partner identified\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the most pressing needs within the cassava value chain that\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ACAI is working to address through the Akilimo DST. These partners include\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Minjingu<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Fertilizer<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, FJS Africa Starch, Tanzania Food and Nutrition Center (TFNC), Farm Concern International (FCI).
